Police confirm Bakker in Abbotsford

Convicted sex offender subject of a public notification by Abbotsford Police.

The Abbotsford Police Department has confirmed the residency of Don Michel Bakker to a location in the city of Abbotsford.

APD officers have attended the residence and spoken with Bakker. Police have also heard from many concerned citizens.

Bakker was convicted of 10 sexual offences. His victims were women and children. The police say his attacks were extremely violent.

In a press release, the APB stated "Public safety is the Abbotsford Police Department’s highest priority. We previously shared information about Bakker because we believe that the citizens of Abbotsford have a right to be informed when exceptional circumstances such as these arise."

The release goes on to say that the police "emphasize that people should familiarize themselves with Bakker's photo, background and court ordered conditions in order that they can protect their families and assist the APD."

The police released a map that encompasses Bakker's current residence location. The area highlighted includes the boundaries of George Ferguson Way, Old Yale Road, Sumas Way/Highway 11 By-pass and Gladys Avenue.

BAKKER is subject to the following conditions:

No contact, direct or indirect, with anyone under the age of 18.

Not to attend public parks or public swimming areas where persons under 18 years of age could reasonably be expected to be present.

No contact with sex trade workers.

Not to possess any electronic device that connects to the internet.

Not to possess any weapons as defined by the Criminal Code or any tool or device that can be used for restraint.

Abide by a curfew of 11:00 pm to 6:00 am.
