Off-leash park moves to Clearbrook

New off-leash dog park will be created in Clearbrook Park, in place of upgrades to the existing Gladwin Park site

A new off-leash dog park will be created in Clearbrook Park, in place of upgrades to the existing Gladwin Park site.

Two community members, Kendall De Menech, who runs a hydrotherapy program for dogs called K9H20, and Liza Whiteside, owner of the new Bosley’s Pet Food Plus on Whatcom Road, began fundraising earlier this year to improve an existing two-acre, off-leash dog park located between Okanagan Drive and Haida Drive, off Gladwin Road.

They raised more than $12,000 to get the project started and worked with the city’s parks and recreations staff to formulate plans. But after assessing the area, they have decided to build a fenced off area for a new dog park in a section of Clearbrook Park. Gladwin Park will continue to operate as a local off-leash dog area.

De Menech “absolutely thrilled” about the new plan, which will help to accommodate more dog owners.

She said that the new area is buffered from surrounding homes and will provide a great area for canines.

A public information meeting will be held on Thursday, Dec. 19 at the Matsqui Recreation Centre from 6 to 8 p.m. The plans will be discussed with an opportunity for community input.
