Not-for-profit groups can run concessions at Entertainment & Sports Centre

Local not-for-profit organizations will have the chance to do some fundraising and spread the word about their organization while volunteering.

Local not-for-profit organizations will have the chance to do some fundraising and spread the word about their organization while volunteering.

The Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre (AESC) is opening its concession stands to the groups, earning them approximately eight per cent of the sales made the evening worked.

Natasha Kraal of Ovations Food Services, which runs the food and beverage service at the arena, said it’s an easy way to get the community involved.

“It also helps with profits and provides the younger members with work experience,” she said.

The organizations can spread the word of what their group does by bringing their own banners, logos, promotional hats and flyers.

An information session was held on Tuesday evening at the AESC, inviting groups to register for the service and to explain the details.

Orientation for the volunteers will take place in August.

The first events to be worked will include the concerts in September, followed soon after by hockey season.

Volunteer contracts last one year.

An application form is available online at www.abbotsfordcentre.ca.
