Abbotsford’s newest piece of art will be located in front of the public library being constructed as part of Abbotsford Collegiate Secondary.

The piece will be created by Vancouver sculptor Bruce Voyce and consists of a long metal pole, ending in the tip of a pen and surrounded at the top by swirls of circular metal poles. On these swirls are three pages with the Shakespearean quote “This above all: to thine own self be true” printed on them. The quote is from Hamlet.

At the base of the piece is a wheel that, when turned, moves the pages at the top in a circular motion.

The cost will be approximately $40,000.

The library is expected to be open in November 2012. A contest will soon be announced asking the public to help name the library, which will consists of 11,000 square feet of public space and 4,000 square foot of school library space.
