A reckless motorcyclist was arrested in Abbotsford last night (Sunday) after allegedly hitting speeds of more than 175 km/h on Highway 1 and speeding away from officers, even after crashing on Mt. Lehman Road.

The incident began just after 10 p.m., when the RCMP's Fraser Valley Traffic Services pulled over the speeding rider on the freeway near Mt. Lehman Road. The motorcyclist then fled from the officer, and about 15 minutes later, reports came in that the bike had crashed in one of the roundabouts on Mt. Lehman Road.

The rider picked up the motorcycle and and parts, and took off southbound on Mt. Lehman.

An RCMP officer doing patrols in the area spotted the bike near the airport, and when he tried to pull him over, the rider sped off eastbound on Huntingdon Road.

Another officer searching for the motorcycle spotted it about 20 minutes later in the area of Vye and Powerhouse roads.

Reports indicate that the rider bumped into the officer’s vehicle head-on, but both vehicles were travelling at a slow speed – under five km/h – and nobody was injured.

The rider was then arrested, and his motorcycle was towed.
