More witnesses sought in jewelry store robbery

The suspect fled the scene in a stolen vehicle and almost hit two other drivers in Abbotsford.

Abbotsford Police are appealing for witnesses who may have come across a suspect fleeing the scene of a jewelry store robbery.

The incident occurred Tuesday just after 11 a.m. at Michael Hill Jeweller in Sevenoaks Shopping Centre. The thief, who was carrying a rock and a replica handgun, smashed a display case and then stole an undetermined number of items.

He left the scene in a stolen 1981 black Pontiac Grand Prix.

Const. Ian MacDonald said surveillance video indicates that the thief left the mall, travelled along Ware Street and turned onto Walsh Avenue before abandoning the car in the 2600 block of Alliance Street.

Police found the vehicle shortly after.

The video indicates that as the culprit was fleeing, he almost crashed into two other drivers in the area of Walsh and Alliance.

Police have spoken with many witnesses in the mall, but are hoping those drivers – or others who might have seen the suspect in the area – come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
