The company building the new modular housing complex on Riverside Road says cranes will arrive at the site this week in advance of the first individual components being set into place.
Foundation work has been taking place for several weeks now at the site, where the 44-unit temporary housing facility for homeless men and women will be constructed.
The building will be made up of 33 modules built off-site at the Agassiz manufacturing site of Metric Modular. Metric teamed with Boni Madison Architects to design the building.
The 22,100-square-foot building has a $6.5 million budget. It will be managed by Lookout Housing and Health Society. Abbotsford’s second modular housing project also took a step forward in December when the city issued a building permit. That project will provide 39 homes for women who are homeless and will be operated by the Elizabeth Fry Society, which already manages two dozen homes on the same property.
