A fixture of the historic downtown’s dining scene has closed its doors indefinitely.

Mitch Miller’s Canadian Grill served its final customers Sunday as its owners prepared to take a hiatus for an unknown period of time.

Owner Mitch Miller wrote on Facebook earlier this month that the closure was prompted by a number of factors. The biggest one, he wrote, was his focus on a new power-generating company, Atlas Power Generation. He said he had “found a new passion for electrical engineering and physics, which has led me to make a few breakthroughs and create new technologies that I have received patents for.”

On Sunday, the restaurant had to close early because diners had quickly bought up the rest of the establishment’s signature items. The restaurant specialized in gluten-free items.

The restaurant was founded by Mitch Miller and his wife Danielle in 2006. The restaurant had served more than 450,000 meals since opening, according to its website.

“Danielle and I wish to thank you, many of whom have become like family, for all of the kindness and joy that we have received,” Miller wrote on Facebook upon announcing the restaurant’s closure.
