Man charged with sexual offences

Police claim man made friends with victim through social networking sites

A 31-year-old man was arrested March 27 in relation to a sexual assault against a youth.

Andrew Theodore Dennis has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching and luring a child.

Police allege Dennis befriended the victim via social networking sites prior to making contact in person. The crimes are alleged to have happened a few years ago, said Abbotsford Police Department spokesperson Const. Ian MacDonald, but due to the age of the victim, no further details were available. MacDonald also reminded parents “that although social media has become a natural extension to our lives, it can also be used for harmful purposes as well.”

Police say there is no connection between this incident and an assault which took place on Discovery Trail March 22.
