A man with multiple prior convictions in B.C., dating back to 1995, has been charged with a bank robbery in Abbotsford.
Mitchell Christopher Mousseau, 48, is accused of robbing the HSBC branch at 32412 South Fraser Way on Friday, Aug. 9.
Abbotsford Police Sgt. Judy Bird said that at about 12:30 p.m. on that day, a man demanded cash from a teller.
Bird said he threatened the teller, but did not use a weapon. He was given cash, and then fled on foot.
Shortly afterwards, officers stopped a man matching the suspect’s direction, and got his name. Bird said, at that time, they were unable to confirm that he was the same man involved in the bank robbery.
However, police later viewed video surveillance footage from the bank, and confirmed that he was the same man, Bird said.
She said before he could be located and arrested, the suspect turned himself in to police on Aug. 11.
According to the provincial court database, Mousseau’s most recent conviction was for two robberies – in Vancouver and Burnaby – in August 2016, as well as for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
He spent a year in jail, and in August 2017 was sentenced to another 18 months, two years of probation and a one-year driving ban.
Mousseau also has multiple prior convictions for other robberies, drug possession, drug trafficking, breaching his probation, possession of stolen property, fleeing from a peace officer, assaulting a peace officer, theft and fraud.
