Upper Fraser Valley Habitat for Humanity will build its second home in the city since 2007.
Chairman Doug Rempel said the organization, which builds homes in partnership with families in need, has purchased a private property on the southeast corner of Farmer Road and Sumas Way. He said Habitat hopes to start construction on the property, purchased for $142,000, by mid-August.
Architectural plans call for a two-storey, three-bedroom home with an unfinished basement, valued at $170,000.
Habitat homes are constructed using volunteer labour and some donated materials. Property costs and other expenses are covered through fundraising and donations.
Homes go to low-income families who are selected, through an application process, because they need affordable, safe housing.
The selected family pays a monthly mortgage of no more than 30 per cent of their gross income.
