Gaming grants for 17 Abbotsford groups

Seventeen non-profit groups in Abbotsford will receive a total of $735,810 in the latest rounds of gaming grants

Seventeen non-profit groups in Abbotsford will receive a total of $735,810 in the latest rounds of gaming grants released by the provincial government.

The grants awarded in this latest batch are for programs in the field of human and social services.

The largest grant, $200,000, was awarded to the Center for Epilepsy and Seizure Education, while the Fraser Valley Child Development Centre received $160,000.

Also receiving large grants were the Abbotsford Youth Commission ($83,500), the Abbotsford International Airshow Society ($50,000), PacificSport Fraser Valley ($50,000), the John Howard Society of the Fraser Valley ($45,000), the Abbotsford Hospice Society ($40,000), Abbotsford Community Services ($30,000) and the Abbotsford Arts Council ($22,000).

The remaining eight groups received amounts of between $2,000 and $18,750.

They were: the Abbotsford branch of the B.C. Schizophrenia Society, the Fraser Valley Invasive Plant Council, Kinsmen Club of Abbotsford, Mount Lehman Community Association, Valley Echoes Chorus Society, Abbotsford Judo Club, Fraser Valley Watercolour Society, and Special Olympics.

More than $8.3 million went to 178 recipients in the latest batch of grants.
