Four teenage boys who were home alone after their mom went to work got out of their home safely after a fire started in the basement Thursday morning.
The teens were all sleeping at the time, but a couple of them first smelled smoke, and then the smoke alarm sounded.
Fire crews arrived to see heavy smoke coming from the rear of the home at 5564 Interprovincial Highway. They discovered that the fire had started in the basement and had spread to the main floor.
They quickly brought the blaze under control, but the home suffered extensive damage, estimated at $150,000.
Three fire engines and 14 firefighters were on scene. The cause is still under investigation, but is not suspicious in nature.
