The former manager of donor and community relations at Abbotsford Community Services (ACS) has filed a wrongful dismissal lawsuit against the organization.
In documents filed recently in B.C. Supreme Court, Janna Dieleman said she was dismissed without just cause and without proper notice on Aug. 26, 2016 after almost 12 years of employment with ACS.
She is seeking costs that include special damages for “stress and mental distress” caused by the dismissal, the documents state.
In its response to the notice of civil claim, ACS says Dieleman was fired due to “unprofessional communication” with staff and volunteers, “lack of timeliness in responses to staff and external partners,” and “insubordination.”
The organization states in its documents that meetings were held with Dieleman to discuss the issues and a formal written warning was provided to her in April 2016.
ACS says it acted in a “fair, candid, reasonable, honest and forthright manner” to Dieleman during her employment and termination.
The matter continues before the courts.
