A fire destroyed a shed and spread to a neighbouring house in Abbotsford on Monday afternoon, but crews quickly extinguished the flames.
Abbotsford Fire Rescue Services was called to the scene on Prairie Street, north of Downes Road, at about 1:30 p.m.
Assistance Fire Chief Jeff Adams said a shed which housed a furnace or heater for a hot tub exploded, and the fire spread to cedar shrubs located between the property and the neighbouring home.
The blaze then spread to the adjacent residence. Adams said the side of the home was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived, and the fire had spread to the attic and roof.
"Crews made an aggressive interior attack on it so we were able to get into the attack space and get it knocked down," he said.
The blaze melted the siding at the front and back of the home, but nobody was injured.
A resident of the property with the shed said he was alerted to the blaze when he felt a blast of heat, which caused him to look out the window. He ran out of the home and then banged on the door of the neighbours' residence, ensuring the occupants got out safely.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
