A fire on Sunday night damaged the basement of Trinity Memorial United Church in old downtown Abbotsford.
A couple who was out for a walk at about 11 p.m. saw smoke coming from the second floor of the church, located at Montrose Avenue and George Ferguson Way.
Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service was called to the scene.
Assistant Fire Chief Craig Bird said crews located the fire in the basement of the building and were able to quickly extinguish it before it could spread further.
He said fire damage was isolated to the downstairs but smoke damage was sustained throughout the building.
The cause of the fire had not been determined as of Monday morning.
