Abbotsford Police are investigating the scene of an explosion that damaged the outside of a townhouse unit on Maclure Rd early Saturday morning.

A makeshift explosive device damaged a townhouse unit in Abbotsford's Kinsmen Creekside Estates early this morning (Saturday).

No one was hurt in the incident, which took place at about 6:45 a.m.

Abbotsford Police spokesman Const. Ian MacDonald said three adults were in the residence at the time of the explosion, which occurred in the patio area at the back of the unit.

"I don't believe there were any children present or currently occupying (the home)," he said.

Damage was sustained to a portion of the wall, as well as to some items on the patio.

Neighbours said residents of the home are involved in the drug trade, but MacDonald said he could not yet confirm their backgrounds.

He said police have attended the residence before, but he wasn't yet certain for what types of calls.

MacDonald said although there have been some suggestions that the bomb was detonated from a toy remote control car, that has not been confirmed.

The RCMP explosives disposal unit arrived on the scene at about 10 a.m. and it will take some time for them to determine exactly what kind of explosive device was used, MacDonald said.

Police are continuing to investigate, both to try to track down suspects and determine whether there are any other explosive devices in the area.

Kinsmen Creekside Estates is a subsidized housing complex located at 33295 Maclure Rd.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
