Stan Petersen has announced he is seeking another term as a school trustee.

Petersen was first elected to the Abbotsford board of education in 2011 after 33 years as an educator in the district, and will run again in the municipal election on Nov. 15.

He said he continues to have a passion for the education of children.

Petersen has a doctorate in educational leadership and feels his experience as a teacher and administrator provides a valuable perspective to the board of education.

As a trustee, he serves on the Abbotsford Youth Commission; The Reach Gallery Museum board; the Parks, Recreation and Culture Commission; the Character Abbotsford Council; the Abbotsford Restorative Justice and Advocacy Association board; and the Sister City Advisory Council.

Petersen said he is proud of the Abbotsford school district.

Although public education went through difficult times over the last several months, Petersen said he believes the public school system remains strong.

“The Abbotsford school district is great. We have strong leaders, excellent teachers and support staff, and great support from parents and the community. Our students continue to excel in their classrooms and in the many opportunities provided in the district," he said.

Petersen said that providing a world-class individualized education for every student continues to be the vision of the Abbotsford school district and he would be privileged to remain a part of this vision.
