Cat shot in Willoughby

Joey suffered multiple injuries after being shot with a BB gun on Tuesday.

A sweet natured cat named Joey was shot — likely out of a tree — in Willoughby on Tuesday.

His owner, Marissa, is devastated, questioning why anyone would do this.

Langley RCMP confirm that they are investigating the attack, which took place in the afternoon in the 20200 block of 70A Avenue. They had no other such calls that day, said Cpl. Holly Largy.

Marissa rushed her cat to the veterinarian after the animal suffered multiple cuts, couldn’t walk and was crying in pain. Joey had been shot in the leg with a BB gun pellet. He took a bad fall after being shot, she said.

The cat’s mouth was badly injured and his tooth broken. He has a cut under his chin, some fur missing on the right side of his forehead. The consensus is that Joey must have fallen from a high place to suffer those types of injuries.

Marissa had to take Joey back to the vet the next day for more X-rays because his front right leg was causing him so much pain and couldn’t walk on it.

“His leg isn’t broken but there is likely muscle and tissue damage,” she said.

“If you have an outdoor cat in the Willoughby area, please be careful,” she warned other residents.

In late July, a cat in Brookswood was shot with a pellet gun. The cat came home with the pellet lodged in its ear. The culprit was never found. That police file is also still open.

If you have any information for police call Langley RCMP non emergency line at 604-532-3200.
