An acrobatic pilot who had performed in the Abbotsford International Airshow was killed in a plane crash Sunday in California.

Eddie Andreini, 77, has been piloting aircraft since he was 16 years old, and twice brought his talents to Abbotsford in the past 10 years.

Airshow president Jim Reith said, "He was a terrific guy and certainly a terrific performer."

He was inducted into the International Council of Air Shows' Hall of Fame in 2013.

"He was a super, super popular guy in the industry," said Reith. "He had the infectious laugh and had a good word for everybody. He would give you the shirt off his back."

The crash happened while Andreini was performing an acrobatic aerial maneouvre at the Thunder Over Solano airshow at Travis Air Force Base.
