Abbotsford's Marijuana Enforcement Project makes first grow-op bust

The Abbotsford Police Department's new Marijuana Enforcement Project (MEP) recorded its first bust on Thursday night.

The Abbotsford Police Department's new Marijuana Enforcement Project (MEP) recorded its first bust on Thursday night.

Police seized 844 plants – with an approximate value of $284,000 – in a warehouse in the 3000 block of McCallum Road.

Nobody was in the facility at the time, and police are now using forensic evidence to determine who is involved. No other details were available.

MEP was announced Thursday as a new initiative in which patrol officers – instead of only the drug enforcement unit – can investigate suspected marijuana grow operations.

Police say grow-ops are linked to gangs and organized crime.
