Abbotsford residents join communities for day of climate action

Residents opposed to pipelines, tar sands expansion

Over 30 people in Abbotsford gathered at local MP Ed Fast’s office on Satuday as part of a national day of action.

Abbotsford residents participated in the Defend Our Climate, Defend Our Communities event, joining over 100 communities across Canada, to show opposition to pipelines, tar sands expansion, and climate change.

Attendees gathered to show growing opposition to the risks posed by pipelines and oil sands expansion to the clime and communities, as federal and provincial governments push for pipelines across the country.

Local volunteers organized the event with national support and facilitation by Leadnow.ca and dozens of environmental, Indigenous and community groups.

“Today, we saw communities opposed to reckless oil pipeline expansion in the West uniting with communities in the east and the north to defend our climate and communities,” said Maggie Knight of Leadnow.ca.  “We are seeing the growing impacts of more extreme weather across the world, and the people who stood up today want Canada to be part of the solution.”
