Abbotsford Police have released a composite sketch of a suspect wanted in the sexual assault of an 18-year-old girl on Sunday, Dec. 18.
Const. Ian MacDonald said the teen was walking through a field on the east side of John Maclure Elementary – located in the 2900 block of Oriole Crescent – at about 8:15 p.m. when she noticed a man standing in the darkness.
She attempted to walk in the opposite direction, but was grabbed by the suspect. The woman screamed, and the man indicated he had a weapon and demanded money from her.
He obtained some cash and other items from the victim, but also groped her and attempted to force her into a sexual act, MacDonald said.
She was able to free herself and run to a safe place.
MacDonald said patrol officers and a K9 unit were unable to locate the man when they were called minutes later.
The investigation is now in the hands of the major crime unit.
The suspect is described as an Indo-Canadian man in his 20s with a thin build and short hair. He was wearing a black baseball cap, a black jacket and blue jeans.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
