An Abbotsford man whom police have previously identified as a known gangster was arrested last Thursday following a take-down off McCallum Road.
Const. Ian MacDonald said a warrant had been issued for the arrest of Chad Weber, 36, following an incident on Jan. 9.
On that day at around 6:30 p.m., police received a call from a residence in the 2000 block of Geneva Court.
MacDonald said a 46-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman reported that two men had arrived at their home, said that they had a weapon, pushed the man around, and robbed the couple.
Descriptions of the men and their vehicle were provided to police.
Shortly after, a vehicle matching that description was stopped, and two men were arrested when marijuana was found in their possession.
Further investigation revealed that Weber was alleged to have been connected to the robbery, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
MacDonald said police surveillance of Weber led to him being followed to a drug store off McCallum Road on Thursday, Jan. 16 and being arrested when he left the store at about 12:30 p.m.
Weber has since been charged with robbery and using an imitation firearm.
Co-accused Harmeet Bhandal, 26, and Shamus Smith, 19, each face the same two charges, as well as possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Weber has faced several charges in the last few years.
In 2011, he was sentenced to 60 days in prison after pleading guilty to possession for the purpose of trafficking. At the time, police said he was connected to the UN Gang, although his current gang connections, if any, are not known.
In April 2012, police warned the public that Weber's life was in danger and that anyone associating with him was at risk.
In July of that year, a 28-year-old man was robbed of cash, electronics and jewelry by a group of men on Catalina Crescent in Abbotsford.
Weber was later charged in connection to that incident and was sentenced in January 2013 to one day in prison.
The following month, he was arrested and charged again – this time for robbery, extortion and uttering threats.
Those charges were stayed last August.
