An Abbotsford man has been sentenced to a six-month jail term related to two charges, including one of possessing child pornography.

Brian Glen Bell, 41, was sentenced June 1 in Abbotsford provincial court on the child porn charge and for attempting to obstruct justice. His jail sentence will be followed by two years of probation.

A third charge – importing or distributing child pornography – was stayed.

Police raided Bell’s home in June 2014 and seized computers, phones, cameras, hard drives and storage devices. Bell was charged two months later.

The obstruction charge came when Bell tried to access one of the confiscated hard drives via cellphone.

After his arrest, the Abbotsford school district released a statement to confirm that a local teacher by the same name was not the man charged. The teacher had been misidentified on social media as the same individual.
