McCallum, McKenzie and King roads are the focus of the area around University of the Fraser Valley.

Council has reviewed its vision for its the University District (U-District) surrounding the University of the Fraser Valley.

McCallum, King and McKenzie roads are the focus of the development plan. Council was presented Monday night with numerous “before” photos and “after” artist conceptions, which will be used to market the region to developers.

Urbanics Consultants was retained to provide a market analysis for the project and has given a projection of the amount of new commercial, institutional, applied research/business park and residential development that could be expected in the area over the next 30 years.

“This strategic location will provide substantial opportunities for commercial development, residential development, employment and university expansion in the future,” said Mayor Bruce Banman in a press release. “It’s important that we put plans in place now so that development in the U District aligns with the strategic vision of the area.”

“Do we have a handle on the infrastructure that’s gong to be needed to service all of this?” asked Coun. Henry Braun, noting that developers should pay for those services – not taxpayers.
