Giving blood-plasma just got easier for Abbotsford residents.
Canadian Blood Services’ new, permanent location at 32700 South Fraser Way, lets residents easily and conveniently donate blood-plasma, all while staying close to home.
But what exactly is Blood-plasma and why does Canadian Blood Services need it?
“Blood-plasma is the protein-rich liquid in blood that helps other blood components circulate throughout the body. Plasma donated in Abbotsford is made into life saving medications for patients in Canada. These specialized medications are used to treat patients with a variety of rare, life-threatening, chronic and genetic conditions. Many have no other treatment option.” explains Johanna Aguirre, Business Development Manager at Canadian Blood Services.
Become Partners for Life
With their new, central location, Canadian Blood Services can better support individual donors and programs like ‘Partners for Life.’
“Our Partners for Life program is a really amazing way for families, schools, businesses and organizations to come together and donate as a team on a regular basis,” Aguirre says. “It often takes more than one donor to save a life and donating together can be a great way to keep each other motivated to come back and donate regularly.”
Through the Partners for Life program, businesses, organizations and families can recruit donors and/or raise funds to support patients in need. It’s also a great opportunity for team-building and improving team engagement as everyone works together towards a common goal.
Here’s how your team can get involved:
- Group donation: Bring your friends, your coworkers and even your neighbours! By joining the Partners for Life program, you can reserve an entire block of appointments and invite everyone to easily and conveniently fill those appointments online.
- Raising awareness: Use your social media platforms for good. Spread the word online and in-person, encouraging others to join in and donate.
- Centre adoption: Improve your businesses community presence by adopting a Canadian Blood Services Donor Centre. Challenge your team to fill as many appointment slots as possible during the next donation event at your local centre.
- Set a pledge or goal: Setting an annual donation goal can help motivate your team to keep donating, and as Partners for Life you can easily track and share your team’s progress!
- Financial donations: Do you have members on your team who can’t donate blood or blood products? They can still get involved by pledging a financial donation instead.
