An Abbotsford man facing charges after an October incident in which he crashed into the Aldergrove Community Police Office has been granted bail.

Kultar Gill appeared in Surrey Provincial Court on the afternoon of Feb. 28 and was allowed to leave custody after four months behind bars.

Most people charged with crimes are granted bail. Persons charged with a criminal offence are considered not guilty until the charges are proven in court.

Facing charges of criminal negligence causing bodily harm, aggravated assault, and two counts of failure to stop, Gill has been in custody since the night of Oct. 29 last year.

Around 8:30 p.m. that evening, a car was caught on video turning into the parking lot of the Aldergrove Community Police office. The driver’s side door was open and a person’s legs were trailing out the door.

The car bumped over a curb, flattened a road sign, and crashed into the front of the building, causing minor damage to the wall and a window.

Another video, taken earlier, showed the same vehicle rear-ending another car.

When Langley RCMP arrived on scene, they found bystanders giving aid to the woman in the crashed car. She was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Gill was arrested a short distance away.

The accused is a former MMA fighter who owned and operated Mamba Martial Arts Academy in Abbotsford, and promoted Mamba Fight Night events around B.C., including a Sept. 29 bout at the Langley Events Centre.
