The race to find the federal election Conservative Party candidate for the Abbotsford-South Langley riding has now grown to four people.
Shanjeelin Dwivedi announced Wednesday (April 24) that she is seeking the nomination, joining Mike de Jong (currently the Abbotsford West MLA), Mike Murray and Steve Schafer.
Dwivedi describes herself as a “former B.C. public servant, social entrepreneur and experienced political adviser.”
She has served as a director of parliamentary affairs for Member of Parliament Cathay Wagantall (Yorkton-Melville) and former MP Tamara Jansen (Cloverdale-Langley City), as well as a senior adviser and campaign volunteer for various electoral district associations.
Dwivedi said her main focus is on “rebuilding the community and ensuring that each generation is better off than the last.”
“After nine years, Justin Trudeau’s leadership is not worth the cost for any generation,” she said.
She said the Trudeau government is responsible for doubling the cost of essential items such as food, rent, mortgage payments and down payments, as well as driving up interest rates with record deficits.
Dwivedi said she supports federal Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre’s plan to eliminate carbon tax on farmers and families, promote home construction and “restore freedom” in Canada.
In addition to her political career, Dwivedi is a co-founder of the Dwivedi Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to honouring and supporting first responders, particularly in their battle against post-traumatic stress disorder.
The foundation provides support, education and recognition to those who dedicate their lives to public safety.
Dwivedi’s work has been recognized by the Richmond RCMP, and she has received an honorable mention award in the Surrey Now-Leader’s Community Builder category.
She holds a master’s in conflict analysis and management and has an associate of arts in criminal justice.
The next federal election is slated for Oct. 20, 2025.
