The Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD is seeking three members of the public to sit on its independent board of variance.

The board considers requests from property owners for minor variances to the FVRD zoning bylaw.

The variance applications could be about the siting, size or dimensions of buildings as examples, that could potentially cause them “undue hardship,” according to the FVRD press release April 24.

The volunteer members of the board of variance serve a three-year term, there is no limit to the number of terms they can serve.

“The application period is now open for the upcoming term,” according to FVRD officials.

It is the British Columbia Local Government Act that requires local governments, which have adopted a zoning bylaw, to establish one.

The board of variance members, are appointed by the FVRD board, and they attend hearings to hear applications, and make decisions on them. Site visits are not required of members but they “are strongly encouraged.”

Anyone interested in applying has until June 7 to submit the application form https://haveyoursay.fvrd.ca/bov
