Annual Purple Day walk in Abbotsford raises awareness about epilepsy

Community comes together at Mill Lake Park on Saturday (March 23) ahead of official day

For the sixth consecutive year the Abbotsford community came together to raise awareness about epilepsy by participating in a walk and setting up a display at Mill Lake Park on Saturday (March 23).

The Center for Epilepsy and Seizure Education in British Columbia hosted the event to celebrate Purple Day around the world, which is held each year on March 26.

On-goers could learn about epilepsy at the event by reading the many books and pamphlets on display.

Abbotsford coun. Patricia Driessen was also in attendance to show support.

Purple Day was created in 2008 by nine-year-old Cassidy Megan from Nova Scotia. Since then, Purple Day has been celebrated by many organizations helping to raise awareness, reduce stigma and empower individuals.
