The former MMA fighter facing charges after crashing into an Aldergrove RCMP building with a woman hanging out the door of his car will learn this month whether he will be released on bail.

Kultar Gill is expected to appear in Surrey Provincial Court on the afternoon of Feb. 28 for a bail decision.

He has been in custody since the night of Oct. 29 last year.

Around 8:30 p.m. that evening, video surveillance footage showed a car turning into the parking lot of the Aldergrove Community Police office, with its driver’s side door open and legs trailing out towards the asphalt.

The car bumped over a curb, flattened a road sign, then crashed into the front of the building, caving in a part of the wall and damaging a window.

Another video, apparently taken earlier, showed the same vehicle slamming into the rear of another car.

When Langley RCMP arrived on scene, they found bystanders giving aid to the woman in the crashed car. She was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Gill was arrested a short distance away.

Persons charged with a criminal offence are considered not guilty until the charges are proven in court.

Much of Fraser Highway in Aldergrove’s downtown was closed through the evening of Oct. 29 and into the following day as RCMP officers gathered evidence.

Gill now faces charges of criminal negligence causing bodily harm, aggravated assault, and two counts of failure to stop.

His first court appearance in Surrey was crowded with friends and family, including many from the mixed-martial arts community.

Gill is a former MMA fighter who owned and operated Mamba Martial Arts Academy in Abbotsford, and promoted Mamba Fight Night events around B.C., including a Sept. 29 bout at the Langley Events Centre.
