A 50-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in relation to the death of his wife, 41-year-old Balwinder Kaur, in Abbotsford on Friday (March 15).
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced on Sunday (March 17), that Kaur was found with life-threatening stab wounds by Abbotsford Police Department (APD) officers. First responders attempted life-saving measures on the scene but she later died in the hospital.
The APD initially responded to a reported assault in progress at 10:50 p.m. on Friday in the 3400 block of Wagner Drive. Kaur’s husband, Jagpreet Singh, was arrested on scene.
“This was an isolated incident,” IHIT Sgt. Timothy Pierotti said in a news release. “IHIT will continue to work with AbbyPD over the coming days, not only to advance this investigation, but to support the community affected by this tragedy.”
IHIT says the APD and the BC Coroners Service will work closely on the investigation going forward.
Those with information are urged to contact the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
