Abbotsford athletes bring home six medals from BC Winter Games

One gold; two silver; three bronze medals won between judo and artistic gymnastics

Amateur athletes from Abbotsford brought home some hardware from the 2024 BC Winter Games in Lhtako Quesnel.

Six medals were won overall, with five coming from judo and one from artistic gymnastics.

Abbotsford Judo Club dominated the competition. All five medal winners in judo from Abbotsford train at the club.

Dominik Maple won gold in the boys 73 kilogram category. Gabe Wiebe earned a silver in boys 66 kg. Three athletes earned bronze: Jude Torenvliet in boys 60 kg, Rohin Litt in boys 50 kg and Mark Kotliarenko in boys 38 kg.

The men’s team from the Fraser Valley in artistic gymnastics were also successful. Four athletes make up a team, and two were from Abbotsford. Parker Rowell-Laferrier and Graydon O’Reilly competed with their teammates from Langley and Chilliwack to earn a silver medal.

The BC Winter Games ran from Feb. 22 to 25.
