One man is dead and an elderly woman is in critical condition following two separate crashes involving pedestrians that happened within six minutes of each other in Abbotsford.
The first collision happened at Victoria Street and Old Yale Road at 5:07 p.m. on Friday (Dec. 22).
When members of the Abbotsford Police Department arrived, they found a 77-year-old woman with serious and life-threatening injuries. She was transported to hospital in critical condition.
Six minutes later, at 5:13 p.m. police were called to another vehicle crash involving a pedestrian, this one in the 30000-block of Marshall Road Extension.
The 40-year-old man who had been hit had serious and life-threatening injuries. Medical aid was immediately provided, however he succumbed to his injuries.
The drivers of both collisions remained at the scene and cooperated with police. Impairment is not believed to be a factor in either crash.
Road closures in both areas were in effect while members of AbbyPD and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service investigated.
