A new stand-up comedy series takes place in Abbotsford on two dates this year.

The Abby Yuk Yuk’s Comedy Night series – presented by Yuk Yuk’s Media (operated by Icarus Capital Corp) – is presented on Saturday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, May 4 at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium (32315 South Fraser Way). Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.

The first event on Feb. 24 features headliner Byron Bertram, an internationally touring Vancouver-based comic.

He is joined by Abbotsford-based host Alex Svarez and support acts including Chilliwack’s Cliff Prang and Langley’s Jessica Pigeau.

Talent for the second show will be announced at a later date.

Bertram recently came off a successful European tour where he visited more than 10 countries, including the UK, Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland.

His innate talent for voices and accents mixed with a confident vulnerability has taken him across the world, performing in well over 30 nations.

He has worked onstage with the likes of Zach Galifianakis, Flight of the Conchords, and Eddie Izzard; was a hit with the judges on Britain’s Got Talent; has appeared on ABC’s Once Upon a Time, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and Riverdale; and is heard regularly on Sirius XM radio.

Svarez started comedy just one year ago in Abbotsford but has produced countless shows, hosted, done guest spots and performed across the country wherever possible.

His comedy consists of irreverent observations and impressions, quick-witted crowd work, scorching hot roasts of himself and the audience, and filterless confessions.

Prang is a professional actor, comedian, writer and producer. As a comic, he has shared the stage with Deborah DiGiovanni, SNL’s Chris Kattan and the late great Canadian legend, Mike MacDonald.

Reader’s Digest lauded him as one of Canada’s 50 comedians to watch. As an actor, he has been featured in numerous commercials and played roles on Supergirl, Supernatural, Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, The In Between and, most recently, Alaska Daily alongside two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank.

Pigeau is celebrated for her rapid-fire absurdist humour and distinctive voice.

Beyond the stage, she has contributed her sharp wit as a researcher and comedy writer for channels like Linus Tech Tips, Tech Linked and Tech Quickie.

She is also the co-host for the Histories and Mysteries podcast, where she delves into intriguing tales with equal parts humor and curiosity.

Tickets for each show are $27 (plus fees and taxes). The link for the show on Feb. 24 is vtixonline/yukyuksabby and the link for the show on May 4 is vtixonline/yukyuksabby2.
