The Young Contemporaries program at The Reach Gallery Museum hosts a free public panel on Saturday, March 14 with the artists featured in the "Buy One, Get None" exhibit.

The session begins at 3 p.m., and the artists will shed light upon their artistic practice, as well as engage in a critical discussion about the show's thematic elements.

Buy One, Get None features the work of eight artists: Alisha Deddens, Julie Epp, Diana Hiebert, Fiona Howarth, Daniel Hurst, Chantal New, Candice Okada and Kendra Schellenberg.

It is curated by David Seymour, student representative from University of the Fraser Valley.

"The exhibition considers the complexity of living in a capitalist society founded on excessive material acquisition, extravagant waste and the exploitation of others,” Seymour said.

The show runs until April 19 at The Reach (32388 Veterans Way).

Other exhibits running until April 19 include "Ancestry and Artistry: Maya Textiles from Guatemala," "Decolonize Me" and "100 Years of Loss: The Residential School System in Canada."

Another exhibit is titled Fauna Crowned with Langley artist Lorena Krause, who presents a series of imagined female portraits that combine oil painting with a technique called repousse, which involves hammering malleable metal into patterns.

"My figurative paintings symbolize the inner power of the female spirit that so often carries the world on their shoulders. With a surreal and dignifying visual representation of the unlimited potential to take this world into a changed future, I depict our irremediable state of oneness with nature and our outer and inner interdependence with traditions and history," Krause said.

The show runs until Aug. 2.
