Upgraded wireless service at AESC

Telus invests $500,000 in distributed antenna system

The wireless connection at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre (AESC) is set to improve dramatically following a half-million dollar investment by Telus.

The telecommunications giant announced Tuesday that a distributed antenna system (DAS) has been installed throughout the arena, which will allow smartphone and tablet users uninterrupted voice and Internet service during big shows.

The use of wireless data at big events has exploded in recent years as fans exchange emails, photos, video clips, texts and social media postings during live events. The new infrastructure will bring clearer voice calls and faster Internet access.

“In the past year, we have hosted many high attendance events including Carrie Underwood, tobyMac and Eric Church,” said Jason Blumenfeld, AESC general manager. “With our fastest sold-out show, Florida Georgia Line, coming up on Wednesday and then Hedley on Saturday, this new service from Telus will allow our fans to easily capture and share the event so they can relive those memories down the road.”
