The Pacific Mennonite Children’s Choir (PMCC) presents its spring concert Folk Songs Far and Near on Friday, June 3.
Directed by Betty-Ann Vroom, the concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. at South Abbotsford Church (32424 Huntingdon Rd.).
The choral group The Alumni Project, directed by Sonja Hindmarsh and Carmen Hollett, will join them as guests for the evening.
This collaboration is a highlight for both choirs. Hindmarsh and Hollett previously co-directed PMCC, while Vroom currently sings with The Alumni Project.
The program features choreographed songs, an audience sing-along, and dancers from the Fraser Valley Academy of Dance.
Highlights include a dramatic arrangement of Are You Sleeping and a choreographed performance of Roar by Katy Perry. The Alumni Project will perform Country Dances by the Swingle Singers, a fast-paced collection of American folk songs.
The international theme of this concert emphasizes an important value of PMCC: to be ambassadors of musical excellence at home and abroad.
In July, a small group of singers from PMCC will tour to England. While there, they will sing in Canterbury Cathedral with other children's choirs from around the world.
Past tours have taken the choir to Ottawa, Carnegie Hall in New York, and Italy, to name a few.
