Nominees announced for annual Arty Awards

The nominees have been announced for the 14th Arty Awards, which take place Saturday, Sept. 29.

Submissions were accepted in July and August in eight categories. In addition, the Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to long-time Abbotsford potter and pottery teacher Herman Venema.

The 2018 Arty Awards nominees are:

– Arts Advocate: Jess Delves, Annalisa Osterby-Batryn and Laura Schneider

– Emerging Artist: Kendra Anderson, Monique Bellamy, Tracy Binnendyk, Janae Gartly and The Crescent Sky

– Lifestyle: Kathleen Feenstra, Jil Sonia McDonald and Memento Mori Studios Inc.

– Literary Arts: Telford (Ted) Goodrich, Seamus Heffernan, Robert Martens, Robyn Roste, Philip Sherwood and Richard Toews

– Media Arts: Casey Kowalchuk and Francesca Moore

– Performing Arts: Brander Raven McDonald and Cliff Prang

– Visual Arts: Meshaal Alzeer, Elysia Bronson, Brayden Eshuis, Emily Gauthier, Jennifer Pinkerton and Jay White

– Youth Achievement: Sarah McGuire and Julia Mezihorak

The Arty Awards will be held at The Reach Gallery Museum, starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and are available at The Reach, Kariton Gallery, and online at abbotsfordartscouncil.com.
