The students at Chief Dan George middle school in Abbotsford present Disney’s Aladdin Jr. from April 9 to 11.
The cast and crew of 148 students have spent the last six months preparing for the production.
Aladdin Jr. follows the story of Aladdin, a charismatic poor street urchin, who meets Princess Jasmine, the beautiful daughter of the sultan of Agrabah.
In the Cave of Wonder, Aladdin stumbles upon a magic lamp that unleashes a powerful, wisecracking, larger-than-life genie.
As Aladdin and the genie start to become friends, they must soon embark on a dangerous mission to stop the evil sorcerer Jafar from overthrowing young Jasmine’s kingdom.
The production incorporates all of Aladdin’s best-known songs: Arabian Nights, One Jump Ahead, Friend like Me, Prince Ali, A Whole New World, and more.
All of the Disney characters are introduced again: Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, Genie, the Sultan, Jafar, Iago, Razoul and the guards. There are also some new characters – Babkak, Omar and Kassim, Aladdin’s devoted and penniless pals.
Special effects help bring the story to life.
The 60-minute show starts at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30) at the Abbotsford Arts Centre (2329 Crescent Way) and includes a 10-minute intermission.
Tickets are $7 and can be purchased from Lisa Garrison at Chief Dan George middle school, by emailing lisa.garrison@abbyschools.ca or through a link at the school’s website (chiefdan.abbyschools.ca).
