The seventh annual Historic Downtown Abbotsford Car Show takes place on Saturday

The seventh annual Historic Downtown Abbotsford Car Show is set for Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The popular community family event will line the streets on the north end of downtown Abbotsford with hundreds of classic cars and hot rods, the Abbotsford Farm and Country Market, a barbecue by the United Church ladies and a free stage show, said Bob King, president of the Car Show Society.

The entertainment stage will feature a different sound this year.

A pair of country entertainers from Mission, including one of Canada’s best kept secrets, Kenny Hess, along with Jim Abbott, will kick up the pace a notch or two.

Hess has shared concert stages with Garth Brooks, Vince Gill, Merle Haggard, Tanya Tucker and Brooks & Dunn, just to mention a few.

Hess has never forgotten his roots in Mission, performing at last weekend’s Rockin’ River Music Festival, plus appearances throughout the Fraser Valley and BC including the Cloverdale Rodeo.

The other Mission musician, Jim Abbott, began playing and singing at the age of nine and over the years has been a band member of Magenta and Mirauder.

He was a finalist in the BCCMA (BC Country Music Association) vocal search, and has performed at Merritt Mountain Musicfest and at countless festivals and events across BC.

The other headliner at the Downtown Car Show stage is “The Man in Black,” David James and Big River.

James and his band are dedicated to replicating the most authentic Johnny Cash tribute possible.

As part of the Sept. 15 event, families can also enjoy the farmer’s market, check out some of the local businesses or take part in the poker-walk which is open to everyone this tear.

In addition, Magnuson Ford is coming on site for “Drive One 4 UR Community” event where people can test drive a new Ford and Magnuson in return, makes a donation to Matthew’s House a new facility being developed at the Campus of Care in Abbotsford.

It will also be the last opportunity to purchase $10 tickets to win a red ’65 Mustang convertible. The Abbotsford Lions Club and Historic Downtown Abbotsford Car Show Society will make the car raffle draw at the conclusion of the car show and donate all proceeds to Matthew’s House.

Admission to the car show is free, and for a registration fee of $20, classic car and hot rod owners get to show off their shiny vehicles, indulge in a hamburger and take home a car show T-shirt, decal and goodie bag.

Registration forms are available at Ann Marie’s Cafe, Avenue Body Shop or at www.downtownabbycarshow.com.
