Churches collaborate to create concert this Sunday

Four local community groups are coming together this Sunday for an evening of Christmas music.

Four local community groups are coming together this Sunday for an evening of Christmas music.

Happening at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, at 30635 Blueridge Dr., the concert will include performances by the Saint Joseph’s Diocese Ensemble from Mission, the Serenada Singers, choirs from the Latter-day Saints Church and a five-member violin ensemble from the Abbotsford Youth Orchestra.

The event is being held to build bridges between the different organizations, said Brody McDearmid, an organizer with the Latter-day Saints Church.

“We wanted to improve our relationship with the other churches and groups in the community and we found that (Christmas) is a common denominator.”

In its first year, McDearmid said that he hopes audiences will walk away saying the evening was touching and inspiring.

He also noted that the seating area will include the chapel and hall within the church with audio and visual mediums set up, so that everyone gets a front seat experience.

Decorations and a Christmas mural, especially created for the event, will be on display.

Admission is free and light refreshments will be available for attendees following the show.

The production starts at 7 p.m., on Dec. 18.
