Abbotsford Children’s Theatre is celebrating its 30th season of shows by presenting Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs on April 13 at 7 p.m. and April 14 at 1 p.m. at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium (MCA), 32315 South Fraser Way.
“This famous fairy tale has been a challenge to produce but has such interesting characters and story line,” said artistic director, Freddy Latham.
ACT has 40 young actors, ranging in age from 10 to 16, who are involved in this production.
“When we first started (30 years ago), there were only 12 kids,” said Latham.
Productions were held at the now non-existent McCallum Activity Centre and then the Abbotsford Arts Centre, which Latham said was too big a venue for the kids.
“When the MCA was built, we finally found a home.”
Three decades later, children not only act, but work backstage, run the lights and help with costumes.
Latham said they are not presenting the Disney version of the famous fairy tale, opting for a more traditional one.
Snow White tickets are available for $12 at Tourism Abbotsford, Clearbrook Optical, Abbotsford City Hall and online at abbotsfordchildrenstheatre.org.
In commemoration of 30 years of plays, ACT will have special mugs on sale for $10 at both this show and the upcoming Christmas play.
Anyone who has been a part of ACT may want to obtain a mug which lists all the shows over the past three decades.
