The BC and Yukon Outstanding Young Farmer Program (BCOYF) recently announced in Abbotsford the winner of the 2016 program.
Chilliwack poultry and egg producers Brian and Jewel Pauls were named this year’s Outstanding Young Farmers. Brian’s parents, Frank and Elma Paul, earned the same award in 1990.
To be eligible for the award, farmers must be between the ages of 19 and 39 and derive at least two-thirds of their income from farming.
Nominees are judged on conservation practices, production history, financial and management practices, and community contributions.
Brian and Jewel will now represent B.C. at the national OYF competition in Niagara Falls, Ont., in November.
The BCOYF program is sponsored by the BC Broiler Hatching Egg Commission and Clearbrook Grain and Milling, both based in Abbotsford, as well as Farm Credit Canada and Insure Wealth.
