VIDEO: Push for Change to roll through Abbotsford

Shopping-cart journey raises awareness about youth homelessness

Cyrus Centre (2616 Ware St.) welcomes Joe Roberts from The Push for Change campaign on Monday, Aug. 28 at 1 p.m.

Roberts is a former homeless youth who lived on the streets of east Vancouver. He made a promise that if he ever escaped his fate, he would do something to pay it forward.

The Push for Change is his promise realized.

Roberts began pushing a shopping car – a symbol of chronic homelessness – on May 1, 2016 across Canada on a 517-day, 9,000-kilometre trek to raise awareness and funds to prevent youth homelessness.

His journey is scheduled to end Sept. 29 in Vancouver.

During his visit to Cyrus Centre, Roberts will share his story.

Cyrus Centre provides services and supports for homeless and at-risk youth. Visit cyruscentre.com for more information.
