Hunger Response International (HRI) in Abbotsford is holding a fundraiser, called Up It or Eat It, in conjunction with World Food Day on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
The agency is encouraging everyone to eat rice on that day because it is the most consumed food in the world and because one in eight of the world’s people are hungry. Prior to that, HRI will provide people with boxes of rice for a $5 donation to cook and eat on World Food Day.
Before they cook and eat the rice, they are invited to use the small boxes to fundraise for the hungry through one of three levels – the inspirer, the sacrificer and the challenger.
Proceeds from the fundraiser go toward HRI’s four global food projects in Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Laos and India.
