Three Abbotsford residents will be among 50 contestants across the province competing in a pageant on Monday, July 2 at Fort Langley to select the next Miss BC, Miss Teen BC and Mrs. BC.
Deepy Deol, Harp Dhillon and Preet Aujla are among those who will take to the stage in the final pageant, held at the Chief Sepass Theatre in Fort Langley.
All contestants have been receiving professional training in areas such as public speaking, interview skills, media relations, modelling, etiquette, fitness, motivational speaking and self-defence.
The contestants compete in a private judges interview, an on-stage interview, sportswear presentation, evening gown presentation, sponsor costume introduction and charity fundraising.
The charity of the pageant is the Cops for Cancer Tour in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.
The winning candidates will then attend various functions across the province over the next year and promote their causes.
Abbotsford’s Sasha Abadundai, Miss BC 2005, dedicated her year to promoting blood donation, and signed up more than 1,000 names to donate blood regularly.
Pageant director Darren Storsley said the event is not a beauty pageant.
“It will be a well-rounded, intelligent, outgoing and well-spoken young lady who will win the crown, not necessarily the most beautiful girl.”
The public is able to support their local contestants by voting for the “People’s Choice Award” at missbc.ca.
