A Grade 5 student of MEI Elementary in Abbotsford will shave his head on May 24 to raise funds for a children’s home and school in Haiti.

Nicholas Foster has been growing his hair since Sept. 2, and so far has raised more than $2,000 for the cause.

MEI Elementary holds a fundraiser every spring in support of Heart to Heart (H2H). These activities include things such as running events and silent auctions.

Last summer, Nicholas decided he wanted to do something more, and he informed his parents of his plan.

“Being in Grade 5, this is his last year to support H2H in the elementary school, and he wanted to end it in a great way,” said his mom Diane.

Funds being raised this year for H2H will go toward walls and a roof for new classrooms on the second floor, a new concrete roof for the schoolyard bathroom, musical instruments, construction of a second-floor kitchen for the guest house, a new generator and more.

The website for the orphanage is hearttohearthaiti.com.
