There is a full schedule of Friday night social dances set at the Abbotsford Seniors Association this month, at 33889 Essendene Ave. Nov. 11 will offer Johnny Hsu, Nov. 18 Sweetwater and Nov. 25 Shirley Rodgers. Dance from 7:30-10:30 p.m., cost $6 for members and $6.50 for non-members.
Scandinavians meet
The Scandinavian Club of the Fraser Valley will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 14, at the Masonic Hall, 33860 Pine St. (corner or Gladys and Pine), Abbotsford. This will be a special occasion to celebrate the group’s 10th anniversary. In addition to the potluck dinner, members will share a large anniversary cake. The evening will have a Danish theme. People are invited to come with their culinary contribution and enjoy the spread of delicious and interesting dishes as well as some entertainment focused on Denmark. Guests and potential new members, who are of Scandinavian ancestry or have an interest in Scandinavia, are welcome. Cancer support group
The Abbotsford Prostate Cancer Support Group meets Thursday, Nov.14 at the Peace Lutheran Church corner of Marshall Road and Ware. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Del Leibel, a radiation therapy clinical educator with the B.C. Cancer Agency. Customer Appreciation Day at the MSA Centennial Library, 33660 South Fraser Way, will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 15 from 2-5 p.m., and the public is invited to come in for treats and coffee.
Learning Plus
Learning Plus presents two programs next week of interest to seniors and enquiring minds of all ages. On Tuesday, Nov. 15, “Tundra Love” is an exciting account of a 1,250 km adventure, from Yellow Knife to Baker Lake. On Thursday, the campaign to build a hospice residence in Abbotsford will be discussed with Marion Keys from the Abbotsford Hospice Society. Both programs take place at 10 a.m. at Abbotsford Recreation Centre’s multipurpose rooms two and three. Admission is $5, including admission to the Recreation Centre. Shop ’til You Drop
The Valley Women’s Network is hosting a Shop ‘Til You Drop event Nov. 15, at the Cascade Community Church at 35190 DeLair Road. Entry is $20 for members and $22 for non-members. The group will fill stockings for the Women’s Transition House.
